late but I made it this year for the now traditional Christmas concert of the VBW and a week before Christmas evening. Actually, I should long since be in the proper Christmas spirit, because every year I take from the Advent to celebrate really. Study and work place, they drive across, so I try to at least enjoy the few free hours during the Christmas season - with punch, a nice Christmas CD, or even just a Christmas concert. On Saturday I was far from being in the Christmas mood, I came from a theater - from work - to the other, the Ronacher , and was tired and a bit tense ... now it was to calm the artists of the VBW Christmas in me. short you did it. The musical Christmas concert this year was worth a visit.
The concert, however, has begun with some stumbling blocks, the first act was somehow not quite the "flow". The atmospheric introduction ("First Noel") of the information gathered on the stage with an orchestra was, unfortunately, by Uwe Kroger very strange poem presented destroyed a little. Too bad. Carin Filipcic could with "The Christmas Song " save the brief drop in mood and convinced the building throughout the evening with her warm, powerful voice. Whether it is for "Cantique de Noël" or presented in perfect Swedish "Gabriella's Sång" from How in heaven. Filipcic just has that certain something. She sings with wonderful feeling and a lot of depth - it's always a joy to see them on stage. Next came
Musical Christmas newcomer Rasmus Borkowski on stage at the Ronacher. "Driving Home For Christmas" is a song that tends to get bored. I like him very happy, but this somewhat monotonous song alone to sing on a "Sesserl" in front of a huge orchestra is a big challenge. Borkowski has handled it well, but there have been moments when the song was hovering just above the boredom.
followed "When Christmas Comes To Town" from Polar Express, a film that charms, especially with its soundtrack. By Dennis Kozelzuh (director) nicely staged: two women, rich and poor recall, on the Spirit of Christmas . The costume of Caroline Vasicek was allowed to observe but not what should have been? A purple imp nuns ensemble with a bad cut and ridiculous hat. Though poor, then your ordinary rags! Since it would be more able to come up. Even at the stage there were some drawbacks. Comic Cube should bring a new twist in Tannenbaum & Co., but unfortunately that seemed rather sterile and uninspired. Right kitschy Christmas and a great Christmas tree - I would have liked ... how lucky that at least the "vampire-moon" has fitted so well.
we come to the point of contention: Uwe Kröger . He can not help feeling sorry one indeed, the Uwe. He goes and behaves as if he had a stick in - please excuse the word choice - ass. Unlocker stiff and he swaggers. Its heyday is over and he now seems to have finally cottoned on. He constantly cheats on the difficult sounds of time, but it also noted its uncertainty. But there are good moments. Those moments where he shows himself sometimes loose, once considered not even from the outside and just is. Then his voice sounds even better, not cramped, and the old Uwe radiates out a little. Far too often but it can go easily.
Nett also "Santa vs.. Christ child, " presented by Caroline Vasicek tangy and Rasmus Borkowski. It was something different and for that reason alone especially since it was written by a member of the orchestra. However, it was perhaps a bit too much
My Highlights of the first act but were "Koppang" of Wietske van Tongeren (very atmospheric - fits the "veil dance" of the ensemble)., " Who Would Imagine A King "by Caroline Vasicek (her soft pleasant voice came here to best advantage) and the American Christmas Medley , with the It went into the break. Here it was first reflective and towards the end really lively. that "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" was added to the medley was refreshingly different and was also interpreted very humorous. The songs have moved well together and the arrangements can only be praised. The music filled the room and the orchestra was able to show its best side.
The second part of the concert was a real pleasure for me. Merry Christmas everywhere, you could say that. Was opened with the great "Polar Express". Dennis Kozeluh has incorporated the role of the guard in recent years and performed flawlessly. His "Do You Hear What I Hear?" was not very impressive, but also insistent and beautiful "Christmassy".
Kroger "heart wish list is so not my thing. "My Grown Up Christmas List" is one of the most beautiful Christmas carols , David Foster, it just has to write great songs on it, but the German version is just letztklassig - rhymed nonsense and bad. Disastrous! Nice photo, however, the children of small-Uwe and siblings in front of the decorated Christmas tree ...
As every year, there were also a number A cappella. "It is scho same Dumpa" had to be heard not only beautiful because it was performing wonderfully, but also because it is through and through Austria and and gives me exactly how rise "Silent Night" (addition) has the heart.
managed "Cantique de Noel" by Carin Filipcic and Wietske van Tongeren is also a highlight. Their voices harmonize so well (even with Vasicek, as all very warm, "Christmas" voices) and the friendship of the two was noticeable and it got even better. With a lively "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" it was already starting to close. A German Christmas Medley could also not be missing before it came to the penultimate song of the evening - "War is over" .
In between, the program was always spiced with Christmas poems and stories , was "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens for me a true highlight of the evening. Rasmus Borkowski as storyteller, highly recommended! The story was brought it to life - with the help of two Christmas elves (very funny: Christian Petru and Anna Knott). Pure Christmas treat!
The few intermediate texts, which otherwise should still serve as connecting elements were, though sometimes self-deprecating (Uwe Kroeger) and okay, but provided mostly rather rough and unpleasant quality jokes. As Dennis Kozeluh really had more to come up. Also, the ensemble might have shown even more, as "herumzuwichteln" on stage, which was quite nice, but no more. More (and demanding) dance scenes would have done the concert probably good.
All in all it was - thanks to the highly successful second act - a beautiful Christmas concert. I left the Ronacher with Christmas delights - what could be better? So it should be yet.
Oh, and the program's announced "Great Lord, O mighty king / Oh dearest Infant Jesus!" was unfortunately left out ...

For those who do not have it this year managed to Musical Christmas , the new CD is quite successful. Uwe Kröger sounds much better here as well. Thanks to the technology of today! "A Musical Christmas" is definitely an investment value.
