What is punk, what is hardcore?
Certainly not that which is currently still served up as a punk and hardcore from the industrial and thrown on the market. And in the so-called Underground, and many unimaginative metal clone bands cavort under the cover of Hardcore ...
What was then used to punk and hardcore? For this purpose, it should be enough literature. For me personally there were also bands like Hüsker Dü SST and Black Flag, their sounds, their spirit. Kids today, there might just suggest Bad Religion and the fashion label that Ramones - shirts are hip. But why lament the old days. It exists but still punk ... Only those who make it know nothing about it.
I speak of modern jazz (and indietronics such as jazz rock, fusion, etc.). Here are most excellent musicians at work, in your compositions, arrangements and publication of a non- may have an eye on commercial success, because otherwise they would just make just no jazz. How obsessed they practice their instruments for years to perfect themselves again and again, improvise and study far beyond the boundaries of understanding beyond listeners to end up to be self-sufficient. You know from the beginning that they will never have or be unlikely to succeed in a big way with this music, risking financial problems and need to start with a small, perhaps even very satisfied wählerischem audience.
This idealism and devotion to this one thing ... For me punk. Projects and bands set usually consists of different nations / cultures. This openness and tolerance ... also a form of punk or property. (By contrast, imagine the uniform styled tattooed and pierced befitting metallers who see themselves as hardcore.)
Now it's time to give examples: Nothing is easier and better than that!
I would describe this book as really a kind of homage to the pianist Hiromi Uehara and her band Sonic Bloom. These brightly-mixed force has recorded some superb albums and also left an unfathomable as a live concert DVD. Here you will find everything you could wish for: gifted Musician, a combination that can not be put into words, beautiful melodic moments, ecstatic solos, pure passion, and not least a dash of craziness at all concerned. Anyone who has seen this DVD and begin to "understand" or cerebral processes that will agree with me: that's really punk.
Although Hiromi really within their division and class success. Worldwide, critics agree that it is one of the best that sits behind the piano. Hiromi said in its most breathtaking piano ecstasies rather, is leaps and pounds ... and thus inevitably infects the audience and encouraged to dance, although the music is anything but dance to. And it is a satisfaction to see that even the classical music critics acknowledge the outbreak of the highly trained Hiromi at the Jazz positive freedom. Compared with the success that won the famous rock and pop acts, it remains unknown Hiromi a little crazy Asian woman, the general public understands not really. But they did everything right. She has remained true to her own master and become rallying other musical geniuses around the world and has left albums that set the bar for the next decades very, very high.
But that sounds like a swan song. Hiromi is still young and probably wild and crazy enough, we also continue to surprise and amaze. While such artists enrich the world, I do not need a new Henry Rollins / Ian MacKaye, and Bob Mould. Anyone who has read this far, the google that there's no tomorrow and check Hiromi Youtube videos.
check this video here and watch it 'til the end! any questions?
